Hi everyone!
We just wanted to quickly write a little update and give an explanation about why a lot of products are out of stock right now on Florissana. Up until recently Florissana was a side project for us, so we couldn't really put the amount of time in it that it needs to grow to its full potential into it. Even though that recently changed, we have relied on IT, design and yoga jobs on the side to sustain the company for now.

Up until recently Florissana was a side project for us, so we couldn't really put the amount of time in it that it needs to grow to its full potential into it. Even though that recently changed, we have relied on IT, design and yoga jobs on the side to sustain the company for now.
Then Corona happened and a lot of those extra sources of income fell away, which has made it almost impossible for us to top off all of our stock. We know how frustrating it is that you want a certain item and it keeps being out of stock. We're doing our best to slowly replenish all the brands and products. Bear with us!
If there's a specific product you're most certainly longing for, let us know, and we'll make sure to give that priority when we make our re-orders.
We're so sorry for this inconvenience, but we appreciate all your support!
Lots of love & stay safe!

Likami respects animals and as such, no products or product ingredients are tested on animals. All products are cruelty-free and most are vegan. |
When I'm looking for new skincare products, very few brands make the cut. I can count the amount of brands that have worked for my skin on one hand. Most of them are represented on Florissana now Likami has joined the cut.
They offer a 4-step skincare program that is customizable for your skin. Very dry skin? Load up on the serum. Very oily skin? Maybe skip the serum during the day, but add it at night. I personally really enjoy that there are no 5 different creams for different skin types, but that you can just change the amount. That also makes them very adaptable for different seasons in the year.
All the products are very stripped down and unisex. Their body care is also a personal favourite of mine. Ranging from most hydrating to less: body cream, body oil and body lotion. A little something for any occasion or any hydration level needed. With my dry skin, I really enjoy the body cream, one of the most hydrating body care items I've found.
Have an awesome day!

Health | The ingredients list of the products is short and consists mostly out of plant oils and butters. The soaps are cold saponified according to a traditional method which preserves the benefits of oils and retains the glycerin naturally formed during the chemical saponification reaction. Plant-based oils and glycerin nourish the skin as opposed to drying it out, even though it leaves you feeling just as clean. You will find no synthetic perfumes either, as everything is either unscented or essential oils were used. All TerraLOVA soaps are organic. |
Sustainability | All of TerraLOVA's products are handmade by Marie Blandin, the founder of TerraLOVA, in Paris (France) using energy-efficient equipment. Whenever possible all ingredients are sourced from within France or Europe and preferably all are fair trade. The soaps themselves are not packaged. The oils and flower waters come in glass bottles. |
Ethics |
The organic olive oil found in most products comes from a Spanish farmers cooperative. Ingredients that don't exist inside of Europe come from an ethical, fair trade source. The products themselves are handmade in the Paris using natural and plant-based ingredients. All products are PETA certified cruelty-free and vegan, so never tested on animals. |
My boyfriend and I were on a trip to Paris. We were walking to the next vegan restaurant as one does. If you're not stuffing your face with vegan food on holiday, were you even on holiday? We walked passed a store which had the words 'vegan', 'naturelle' & 'cosmétiques' on the window. Needless to say it definitely made me curious. So we went in. I looked around, looked at the ingredients and decided to take a few items to try out. At this point I had yet to find a vegan shampoo that worked for me. I had been trying things out for years ranging from very cheap to very expensive organic, plant-based shampoos, but none of them really worked. I decided to take the volume shampoo, a cacao/coffee scrub and the coconut soap (I think, it's been a while). I have to say I didn't necessarily have very high expectations as I've had so many bad of mediocre experiences before.
To my very big surprise I was blown away by the quality of the shampoo... my hair hadn't felt as 'light' and soft in such a long time. Florissana already existed at this point - in contrast to most other brands which I found and loved before founding Florissana - so after a few weeks of trying out the products, I decided to contact Marie to ask if she would be interested in having her products on Florissana. And here we are now!
Have an awesome day!

The name comes from the Sanskrit word Gandha, an ancient yogic practice of using fragrant substances to induce calming self-connection every day. This can have very positive effects on your mental health.
Fragrance fills Indian ashrams because it opens up the meditative mind and has an immediate effect on the nervous system. It is this tradition of using fragrant herbs and plants for mind-body wellbeing that yoga teacher and Yogandha founder, Sinead Duffy, is reviving. She spent three years meditating and blending on the wellness goals of her students to create the range. It was three years of herbal trance and the products are unlike anything else. They are complex and deep and Sinead likes to think that through deep meditation, she was able to allow a force to work through her, allowing the herbs to be synergized in the way they wanted to be. She dearly hopes that Yogandha oils will bring daily self-connection and calm into the lives of all they touch. She is very proud that the oils are now multi-award winning, though nothing is as important to her as having an deeply positive impact on your wellbeing, bringing moments of calm self-connection every day.
The benefits of Gandha for mind and body are deep, rippling out through every aspect of our lives and to those around us. They work holistically – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. And, we believe that a stronger mind-body connection is fundamental to the wellbeing of our people and our planet. Daily use of herbs, resins, and plants, reminds us of this truth at a deeply subconscious level, reconnecting us with ourselves, with nature, with each other, and with our planet.
Start your day using Yogandha wellbeing body oils in the shower or as a body oil. As you apply, feel yourself letting go of the past and gaining clarity for the day. Use whichever oil resonates with your current headspace – Yogandha Detox to cleanse; Yogandha Muscle Soothe to ease and soothe; Yogandha Relax to nourish and calm. Use the mantra on the back of the bottle, or affirm your own intention for the day.
Have the three Yogandha rollerballs on hand all day. Yogandha Ground to calm; Yogandha Salute to energise and focus; Yogandha Balance to recalibrate. Keep them visible on your desk. Keep them in your bag and in your car. Breathing these sacred herbs will calm you and bring you into the moment. You’ll feel it instantly.
Health | The products are made from natural ingredients utilizing oils and essential oils. Plant-based oils like coconut oil act like a carrier for the essential oils (which are responsible for the scent). Fragrance opens the meditative mind and can bring mindfulness and deep wellbeing into your every day. Learn more about their key ingredients here. |
Sustainability | All of Yogandha's packaging is post-recycled or recyclable. They don't use glue for the recycled cardboard boxes the products come in. The products themselves are handmade in Ireland using only natural ingredients. |
Ethics | The company donates 5% of their profits to Women for Women International. The products are handmade in the Ireland using natural and plant-based ingredients. All products are cruelty-free and vegan, so never tested on animals. |
Besides my interest in an ethical lifestyle, I also really like (and teach) yoga. I was interested in learning more about aromatherapy and how certain essential oils can have an effect on different energy centers (chakra's). I eventually bought a bottle of Ylang Ylang essential oil, which is said to be helpful for both your heart and sacral chakra. It particularly helped with controlling the anxious feeling in my chest and create more balance in my state of mind in general.
So I started looking into blends that would have a certain effect on your body, as I did not have enough knowledge to do so myself, and having 10 bottles of different essential oils also seemed pretty wasteful. So I started searching for blends and eventually found... Yogandha. I bought all 6 of the products.
Since then I carry at least one of the rollerballs in my handbag. I apply them several times throughout the day depending on how I feel. They've had a very positive effect on my state of mind and/or energy levels (depending on which one I used). On top of that they smell great. The wellbeing oils are like a body lotion with added benefits. They've left my (very dry) skin feeling very soft. Even though it's oil, it sinks into your skin easily. I use the muscle soothe one whenever I feel a little sore, the relax one before I go to bed and the detox one at other times during the day.
This week you can use the discount code YOGANDHAINTRO to receive 15% off of all Yogandha products in your order.
Have a great day!

Simple products made from powerful botanical ingredients to transform, nourish & create wellbeing. Our skin is a doorway: what we put onto it may directly enter our body and bloodstream. They are a predominantly vegan brand and do not use animal/animal-derived ingredients with the exception of almond mascara which contains beeswax, which we don't carry in the store. |
When I started using Ere Perez, they weren't making skincare yet. I was immediately a fan of their make-up items, though! Ere Perez makes very high-quality items for a price that's slightly lower than your average high-end eco-friendly make-up brand, which makes them a little more accessible for both natural skincare and make-up.
Now they also carry a skincare range. And that green serum. Oh my gosh... it's SO good. But when I discovered the Papaya SOS Marmelade I was even more blown away. It's the kind of product you can apply to broken skin. This makes it an incredibly powerful product. Whenever I have a cut, a wound, sunburn or an irritated nose (due to colds), I apply the papaya cream. The next day you can already feel and see the difference. I really didn't expect it to work as well as it did. That product really sealed the deal for me and pushed me over the edge to add Ere Perez to Florissana!
Have a great day!

New year, new skin, new you! In on of the previous blog posts, we went over some intentions for the new year. One of which was taking care of your skin. So we figured we’d dedicate an entire blog post to one of our favourite skincare brands: Gressa Skin! Who have an amazing skincare range, and their make-up is basically skincare with a colour added to it. What’s not to love?
Gressa Skin utilizes a 3-step skincare process to revitalize and renew your skin. Depending on your personal preference, you can skin the cleanser in the mornings, but we would recommend doing the other 2 steps both morning and night.
]]>Gressa Skin utilizes a 3-step skincare process to revitalize and renew your skin. Depending on your personal preference, you can skip the cleanser in the mornings, but we would recommend doing the other 2 steps both morning and night.
Step 1: Cleanser
There are two options here for you to choose from. Both are great for different reasons. The Balancing Cleanser is an oil-based cleanser that is especially suited for aging or sensitive skin. People with acne can also use this product. The oils in here will not aggravate your skin and make you break out, but it will balance out your skin, as the name suggests and can actually reduce the amount of spots. The main ingredient in this oil is jojoba oil, which is an amazing ingredient for balancing out your skin’s natural sebum production, making it great for all skin types. If you’re wearing make-up, you can use the Balancing Cleanser for that as well. However, don’t forget to actually cleanse your skin after that with either the Balancing Cleanser again, or the Purifying Cleanser.
The Purifying Cleanser is a foaming cleanser. Often foaming cleansers dry out and break out your skin, and leave your face feeling quite tight. When your skin is stripped dry, it can cause it to produce too much oil afterwards, which leaves it quite imbalanced. None of those things happen with the Purifying Cleanser! This anti-inflammatory cleanser will remove impurities, but also nourish, and strengthen your skin.
Step 2: Tone
A toner is the second step. Often it’s pretty confusing what exactly a toner does. Well… they help with balancing your skin and often have extra skincare benefits. The Purifying Mist is a rose water spray. Rose water helps to balance your skin’s pH, hydrates and has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant and toning properties. The smell is divine, and will help you relax.
The Rejuvenating Mist is an orange blossom water spray. Orange blossom water helps with toning your skin as well. It hydrates, but it’s also slightly exfoliating. It smells great as well, and has a calming effect. Perfect to wind down after a long day.
Both toners are suitable for all skin types. We use the Purifying Toner during the day together with the Purifying Oil, and the Rejuvenating Toner at night together with the Night Repair Elixir, but you can use them whenever and however you want. Even throughout the day to freshen up your skin. A facial spray is also a great last step in your make-up routine, as it will get rid of any excess powder you might’ve applied, making your skin more dewy.
However, if you're not too keen on facial mists (like our co-founder Mathijs), then you'll love ILIA's Cucumber Water Stick. It's a toner, but in a stick. You can just draw it onto your skin and then rub it out. A cooling toner with anti-inflammatory properties that helps to hydrate your skin and stimulate collagen product. Use it during your skincare routine, or whenever you feel like your skin needs a boost during the day.
Step 3: Nourish
During the day use the Purifying Oil, a hydrating facial treatment for all skin types, even acne-prone skin. The main ingredient in this blend of oils is jojoba oil. This lightweight golden liquid is actually a wax ester, which is what makes it mimic the oil that our skin produces. This makes it an amazing ingredient for both dry and oily skin. The versatile, potent properties heal, balance, and restore healthy skin. This oil will replace the day cream that you might be used to. It is also great to prepare your skin for make-up.
At night use the Night Repair Elixir, which will repair your skin while you sleep. You’ll wake up with more refreshed, revitalized skin. The main ingredient is grape seed oil, which hydrates while regulating natural oil production. It is bursting with antioxidants that fight free radicals, anti-inflammatory polyphenols, beta carotene, and vitamins D, C, and E. Another important ingredient is rosehip oil. Packed with Vitamins A, C, and E, this oil is beloved for its ability to repair damaged skin, aid in post-acne scarring, and prevent signs of aging. The high concentration of essential fatty acids nurtures dry, weathered, and dehydrated skin.
Treat
Once a week or so, you can treat your skin with a face mask. Our favourite is Gressa's Dirty Pretty Things, which is a revitalising face mask with red clay and traditional herbs suitable for every skin type, including aging and acne-prone skin. Take a teaspoon to a tablespoon of the mixture, mix it with a little bit of water, apply it to your face, and leave it until the mixture has dried up.
Sunscreen
It's important to protect our skin from the sun every day, the sun's rays can be very damaging and aging. Yes, even on days that the sun doesn't seem to shine much. And then we're not even talking about the health risks associated with prolonged sun exposure. In the morning you can apply a tinted moisturiser with sun protection in it for instance, like ILIA's Sheer Vivid Tinted Moisturizer SPF20. But we should be reapplying every few hours. None of us feel like either redoing our make-up, or rubbing a sticky cream on our face every few hours. That's where ILIA's Moondance SPF20 comes in. You can use it as a setting powder, and reapply throughout the day without feeling more and more sticky, or as if your skin can't breath through all of those layers or sun protection. An added bonus is that you don't even need a separate brush. Perfect to put in your handbag!
This week you can enjoy 15% off of all skincare products in the shop by using the discount code HAPPYSKIN2017!
Have a great day!

Whether you're already a flexible yogi who can do chaturanga dandasana with ease, or you can barely touch your toes and do a push-up, anyone can benefit from doing yoga. It's important to move our bodies, especially since most of us tend to sit at our desks for way too long - me included. Yoga helps with learning how to properly move our bodies, improve posture and increase range of motion, while also building muscle which is important when we grow older. The best of several worlds.
However, yoga doesn't only help with physical health, but also with mental health. A lot of people suffer from stress, burn-outs, etc. Meditation and focussing on your breath helps to let go of the constant chatter in your head. Your thoughts are still there, but you choose to not act on them. You learn to live in the moment, so you can enjoy what you're doing now without worrying about the future as much.
Photos: Manduka Yoga, VYAYAMA, Manduka YogaTwo of the values we hold highly here on Florissana are thinking about the environment and ethically-made products. Whenever you spend money on something, you're supporting the thing that you buy, so why not make it something that you actually want to support?
A lot of items we buy these days are still made by children, or people working in sweatshops in unethical working conditions while completely disregarding the environment. We only have one planet, and we're not taking care of it at all now. For some products, like clothing or furniture, animals are exploited as well due to the use of fabrics like leather or wool for instance. This needs to change. The company selling you the items won't tell you if they uphold shady practices, so the responsibility lies with you, the consumer, to find out what you're actually buying.
You don't have to throw away all of your things, you can start small by simply just consuming less. When you buy something ask yourself if you really need it and/or if it will make you happy. You don't need 5 white t-shirts, 1 or 2 will do. Once you're ready to take it to the next step, you can start looking for eco-friendly or thrift stores close to you for whatever it is that you want to buy, or look for online shops like the one you are on right now. Already on the right track!
As far as for instance grocery shopping is concerned... try to limit the amount of plastic wrapping that you use. Choose compostable or reusable produce bags to put in fruits and vegetables. And recycle the plastic that you do buy. All in all, what we mean with "conscious shopping" is that for whatever item you buy, think about the consequences for others and the planet, and try to make the right choices as much as possible. You don't have to strive for perfection or zero-waste living, but choose ethical brands, buy secondhand and be conscious about how you spend your money.
Photos (left, right): Wunderwerk, ReformationA lot of people go on a diet once the New Year comes around. However... restrictive diets are usually unsustainable, don't work in the long run and generally make you miserable. Instead of focussing on the outside and on losing weight, focus on treating your body in a way that it deserves. Choose healthy, whole foods in your daily routine. Choose plants. Choose veganism. And then eat a vegan burger in the week-ends.
A whole foods plant-based diet is one of the best things you can do for your health. You will be healthier, have more energy, and feel more vibrant. But if you can't go there immediately, start slowly by replace meat, dairy and eggs with plant-based alternatives.
A switch towards a more plant-based diet is not only good for your health, but also has an incredibly positive impact on the planet, as well as the animals that don't have to be abused in order for you to eat the piece of meat, the slice of cheese and the hard-boiled egg on your plate.
In the western world we are all very busy. We can get so caught up in a lot of situations that we forget to make time for ourselves, or consciously fill the me-time slot with other activities that you deem more important.
With the amount of burned out, stressed out people in our society, it's best to take action before it is too late. Well... before you actually have a burn-out or depression or just feel crappy all the time.
This one is also kind of related to the first tip... to do yoga. For me, on a regular day, my yoga practice is usually my me-time, but it doesn't hurt to sometimes take extra time to go into nature, treat yourself to a coffee while reading a book, do journaling, go for a run, put on a face mask, take a bath... whatever it is that makes you feel truly at ease is something that you should make time for.
Photo (right): Manduka YogaOur skin is our largest organ. Don't slather it with random products you find at the drugstore. It deserves better. Nourish your skin with whole ingredients that do your skin good in the long run. Stop using drying soaps, irritating cleansers, lotions that only break you out, and make-up that doesn't let your skin breath. Your skin deserves better. And so does the environment.
Choose products that have good, natural ingredients that were produced in a fair, eco-friendly way. As you should always strive for... promote the businesses like Gressa Skin, Dr. Bronner's, Kure Bazaar, ILIA, Yogandha and many more that actually care about making a change for the better. For humans, for the environment and for the animals that co-habit this Earth together with us. It will do you and your skin good.

The Nature of Beauty is a little different from other "natural beauty" books. It's informative, well-written and beautifully designed, without ever becoming boring. The book doesn't only go over why natural skincare is a good thing. It also delves deeper into how you should read a label, how to understand your skin and which skincare is good for your skin type, and lots of other stuff. At the end of the book, there are natural beauty swaps for mainstream, popular beauty products, which is very helpful for people who have yet to find natural dupes for current favourites. In those suggestions you will find lots of items also featured here on Florissana!
This book is a great starter for anyone interested in a more sustainable lifestyle. The book covers a wide array of topics concerning sustainability, including beauty products, but also clothing, travel, food and more. The chapter about cosmetics is a great introduction into the importance of going the more eco-friendly, natural route, without going too much into detail. The book has so many gorgeous, colourful photos and the writing is very easy-going, which makes this book a great, enjoyable read! The book is currently only available in Dutch, but the English version will come out next year.
Ever wondered why we started wearing make-up? Me too. If you're interested in the history of it all, and what crazy ingredients we used to put on our faces, there really is only one book you should be reading. And that is Facepaint by Lisa Eldridge. She's one of the most respected and skillful make-up artists today, with a love for vintage make-up. That was the driving force behind making this book.
An oldie, but goodie! Different from the other books is this last one as it mostly consists out of photographs. Photographs to help you with your make-up skills. With the plethora of (sometimes bad) YouTube videos out there, made by make-up enthusiasts but not professionals, it's refreshing to read a book from someone who knows everything there is to know about applying a good face of make-up.
]]>I started transitioning towards natural beauty several years ago, after I got curious about the "without parabens" sign on my shampoo bottle. I was overwhelmed by all the information I was taking in at once. Transitioning to healthier skincare and color cosmetics is not the easiest thing in the world, as they're sadly still less accessible. And don't get me started on all the greenwashing in advertisements these days! It took me a while (years even), to find cosmetics that perform well, make my skin glow and are truly good for you. With Florissana I wish to make the brands that I believe in more accessible for everyone by grouping them in one place.
But let's get back to why I chose natural beauty in the first place. I've writen down 5 of the main reasons.
]]>But let's get back to why I chose natural beauty in the first place. I've writen down 5 of the main reasons.
Natural products contain much less fillers and weird ingredients. You can actually sort of understand the label. Most people notice that their skin reacts very well to the use of simple, good-quality, natural skincare and cosmetics.
One of the many reasons is that there's no synthetic fragrance. Alarm bells should go off in your head when you read the word "fragrance" on your ingredients list without a decent explanation of the manufacturer about what that actually means. What exactly goes into the "fragrance"-ingredient is considered a trade secret, and doesn't need to be disclosed to the consumer. Research has found that added fragrances are among the most common causes of sensitizing and other negative skin reactions. And sadly it's in almost all conventional beauty products.
Of course, it's still possible that your skin won't get along with certain ingredients in natural products as well. My skin doesn't always react very well to coconut oil, while it works miracles for my best friend's face. It can take some trial and error to find products that completely fit you and your skin, but the same thing goes for conventional beauty products. In the end, your skin will thank you for taking the time to look after it so well!
Sodium lauryl sulfate, methylisothiazolinone, mineral oil, petrolatum, parabens, propylene glycol, formaldehyde, DEA and phthalates are some of the ingredients that are often used in conventional products. This is not a good thing, as there are possible health risks associated with all of them. Your skin consists out of a lot of layers, is semipermeable and has hair shafts. This means that a small percentage of the ingredients you put into the skin eventually reaches your bloodstream.
A good example of this are chemical vs. mineral sunscreens. Mineral (or physical) sunscreens sit on top of your skin and reflect UV rays. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing UV rays, converting them into heat, and then releasing. These kinds of sunscreens often include penetration enhancers. Many sunscreen chemicals are thus absorbed and can be found in the blood, urine and even human breast milk. On top of that, chemical sunscreen can be disastrous for the environment and easily damage coral reef systems. So when you go swimming, please make sure to use a coral reef-safe sunscreen!
We already live in a polluted world, why not avoid using even more synthetic chemicals when there are alternatives?
Mineral oil is made from petroleum, it's sometimes used as one of the main ingredients in skincare products. It's often contaminated by toxins, and while there's no conclusive evidence that it will certainly harm you, there's also no evidence proving it's completely safe. On top of that it's comedogenic, which means it closes off your pores. This increases your risk of getting spots and blackheads. And even if all of the above was not an issue, it does nothing good for your skin.
Not all silicones are created equal, and there are a lot of different types. Big quantities of silicones should be avoided as they can be comedogenic as well and it should definitely not be the first ingredient in any of your skincare products. The problem here lies mostly with the environment. They can build up over time as they are bioaccumulative.
Of course there are many other ingredients that you should be avoiding for (skin) health and/or environmental reasons. As mentioned above, ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate, methylisothiazolinone, petrolatum, parabens, propylene glycol, formaldehyde, DEA and phthalates are no good! Usually these ingredients are just used because they're cheap, prolong the shelf life of the products and/or badly mimic the effect of natural ingredients.
Botanical beauty products can indeed be more expensive. This has several reasons. Truly natural ingredients are more expensive to acquire for the company. They're usually handmade in a factory that promotes fair labour and eco-friendly practices. You cannot sell a product for two euros without someone, somewhere paying the price for it. Usually the worker that made your product or Earth. With your money you have the ability to support others fairly for the products that you're buying. This is, of course, also true for other types of products, e.g. clothing.
That doesn't mean that all expensive products necessarily promote ethical production. You can find products by 'high-end' brands that are made in bulk, and made with synthetic ingredients and lots of preservatives. Reading the labels and doing your research is key! These brands are often owned by a parent company that re-uses similar formulation with some minor tweaks for several of their child companies. The goal is to make huge profits off of products that don't do much for your skin. The only "benefit" of these synthetic ingredients is that they can be manufactured at a low cost at any time of the year, regardless of which plant is in season at the time.
These days companies still do way too much testing on animals. Sometimes a brand can claim to be cruelty-free, even though their parent company still tests on animals (like L'Oréal and all the child companies like Urban Decay and NYX). This often starts a debate about whether or not you should support similar brands. I personally try to support smaller, ethical brands were possible that - explicitly - care about the animals, environment and the humans manufacturing the product.
There's no need in this day and age to still test on animals while there are so many alternatives. Thankfully, most natural brands are cruelty-free and usually also have some sort of certification like Leaping Bunny Cruelty-Free. They usually make it a lot more clear if they're animal-friendly (or even completely vegan), instead of confusing the consumer with a long, vague guideline about their animal testing policy.
Of course, if you choose Florissana, you don't have to worry about any of these things. We will do the worrying for you. We assure you that all the brands we will ever promote are ones that don't violate any of our principles.

When looking for eco-friendly, natural nail polish, there really are only a few brands worth your attention. Kure Bazaar was the first to emerge in the eco-friendly green beauty scene and it's still the one to watch. Eco-friendly, good quality and amazing colours. A brand we're happy to represent here at Florissana.
Kure Bazaar was founded by Kartika Luyet who started thinking about the things she put in and on her body while pregnant. She stopped wearing nail polish all together, because she couldn't find a brand that was good for you and offered appealing colours. That's when the research into sustainable, fashionable nail lacquer began. Years later, Kure Bazaar was born. A line of nail polishes that offer an incredible gloss, durability, quick-drying properties and sustainability!

A line of nail polishes that offer an incredible gloss, durability, quick-drying properties and sustainability!
There is no reason to sacrifice eco-friendliness or better-for-you nail polish for colour, style or quality as Kure Bazaar does it all. Kure Bazaar nail polishes are made of 85% natural ingredients without compromising on performance and come in a wide variety of colours. The ingredients they use include wood pulp, wheat, cotton, potatoes and corn. They drastically reduce the amount of ingredients derived from petrochemicals in comparison with mainstream brands.
The brand is certified 4-Free meaning they don't use Toluene, Formaldehyde, Dibutyl phthalate or Synthetic Camphor. Although not yet certified, Kure Bazaar has made a commitment to further innovate by formulating their products 10-Free, by also not using TPHP, Parabens, Xylene, Styrene, Benzophenone-1 and Benzophenone-3 in their formulations. These chemicals can potentially have a negative impact on your health and the environment when used frequently. Something you don't need to worry about when using Kure Bazaar.

Kure Bazaar constantly work on making their nail polishes as natural as possible and are on the way of making all of their polishes 10-Free. Thus formulating products without Toluene, Formaldehyde, Dibutyl phthalate, Synthetic Camphor, TPHP, Parabens, Xylene, Styrene, Benzophenone-1 and Benzophenone-3. After two years of research, they managed to get a distillation of organic solvents. The solvents do not come from derived chemical products but are natural. This was a breakthrough in eco nail polish. They prefer ingredients that can be found in nature, like wood pulp, cotton, corn and even potatoes as much as possible. After several more years of research (and being faced with a lot of obstacles) they managed to make a 100% natural nail polish remover that is also odor-free. |
Sustainability | Up to 85% of their formulation comes from natural ingredients. This way they dramatically reduce the use of chemicals originating from petrochemicals without compromise, impeccable resistance, ultra-shine and quick-dry. The bottles they use are glass and can be recycled. |
Ethics | The composition of the nail polish is 100% vegan, and so are all the other items like the nail polish removers. All products are made in France. |
I have had mixed experiences with nail polish in general. It never lasts long enough, and I seem to constantly mess it up. I can't sit still for over half an hour to let it dry. I have too many things to do.
If I would succeed the nail polish would be ruined after a day or two. I'm not about to sit still for half an hour every few days. Pre-green beauty days I tried out different brands like Essie, Lancôme and eventually settled for Dior as I found that it stayed on my nails the longest. When I switched to green beauty nail polish was one of the last things that I changed. Mostly because I never used it very often. I tried out a few very bad brands, until trying Kure Bazaar. It seemed to get the best reviews, so I eventually tried it out. I was amazed at the quality, which was better than any conventional nail polishes I had tried out.
Still... I had to wait 30 minutes every time and, even though it already lasted twice as long, I still had to apply it two times a week. Too many times for me. This changed when I started using the Dry Finish top coat. I can apply my nail polish and let it dry within 20 minutes. It stays on my nails for at least 7 days (longer for normal people), and now I wear it much more regularly. The colour stays vibrant and glossy until I take it off. It's not a chore to apply it anymore.
When I was talking about starting this webshop with my sister, I told her that Kure Bazaar was better than the Dior nail polish she was still using. She didn't believe me. But then she tried out Kure Bazaar and had to revise her opinion. Billie, our adopted dog, likes Kure Bazaar too. He kept wanting to appear on all the photos together with his sticks he just found in the garden.

]]>ILIA fits perfectly in the Florissana ethos. A focus on quality, while obtaining to use the most natural ingredients and make products in the most eco-friendly and ethical way possible.

]]>ILIA fits perfectly in the Florissana ethos. A focus on quality, while obtaining to use the most natural ingredients and make products in the most eco-friendly and ethical way possible.
The brand was founded because at the time it was nearly impossible to find a colour line that offers products that are a combination of skincare and colour, without only offering off-trend, muddy hues and disappointing packaging.
Our skin is our largest organ, and can absorb just about anything we put to its surface. ILIA is formulated with this in mind, and dedicated to creating the purest products possible. The ethical-sustainable approach embodied in each piece is filled with certified organic bio-active botanicals that nourish and rejuvenate the skin.
The quality of the product is mirrored in its packaging. Most of the products are housed in a sleek recycled aluminum case. Each product is filled with up to 85% bioactive organic ingredients. A combination of on trend pigments and super nourishing elements has set ILIA apart from the conventions of organic beauty.
ILIA launched its first collection of 6 Tinted Lip Conditioners in Vancouver, Canada in 2011. The philosophy behind the now LA based brand grew from the curiosity of understanding the ingredients on the back of a lipstick box a few years prior by its founder, Sasha Plavsic.
Contrary to many organic cosmetic brands on the market at that time, Sasha referred to her roots in branding and focused on the visual aesthetic of the line. Once the contemporary packaging was in place, it was important that the quality of the product performance stood out as something new and unique in the beauty industry. From here, she sought out several chemists and an organic supplier to create an ethical product and maintain full visibility from start to finish.
Health | Zachary Ilia, the founder's younger brother and now business partner, suffered from acute asthma and allergies as a young child. Their mother who changed their diet to natural and organic products after trying different remedies. The change of lifestyle allowed her brother to heal. ILIA was founded on the ideology of safety, simplicity and transparency. Their high quality ingredients are sourced from organic farmers around the world and manufactured in an organic certified lab. The formulas consists out of the safest, cleanest ingredients and are created from scratch by Sasha and her team. |
Sustainability | Most products are also housed in a recycled aluminum case embodying their stance on sustainable living. All products are produced in the USA, working closely with several laboratories where they are in control of the creation and production process. |
Ethics | Their labs are Leaping Bunny certified, meaning they don’t believe in testing their products or ingredients on animals. ILIA uses USDA certified organic ingredients and all the products are certified gluten- and dairy-free. |
ILIA was one of the first natural make-up brands that I fell in love with. I was searching for items that would be as good and last as long as the conventional products I was used to using. It took me a long time to find replacements that I loved as much or more as the old ones. I started using ILIA's products back in the day when they only had cheek and lip products (and maybe also mascara). No foundations, eyeshadows or face powders yet. The lip products alone were enough to keep me going back for more, as the colours were (and still are) much more vibrant and not muddy or generic like a lot of organic brands were (and - again - still are).
I have used their lip products for a long time, and tried out other products as they released new items. The Vivid Foundation is the first natural foundation that I have actually liked (I later also tried the Gressa one, which I love equally). It doesn't change colour drastically while you're wearing it, which was a problem I encountered a lot with previous natural foundations.
It can be difficult to find mascara's that are not black when looking for natural cosmetics. Thankfully ILIA makes four different shades. I use the lightest one as a brow gel, which I would highly recommend! You can also use them as liquid eyeliner when you use them in conjunction with an eyeliner brush. Multi-use at its finest!
This week you can use the discount code ILIAINTRO to receive 15% off of all ILIA products in your order.
See you later for an intro to Kure Bazaar. Have a lovely week!

Gressa was born out of the desire to create something very special and worthy of a woman’s delicate skin.
The passion came from a family history of traditional herbalism, a scientific background and a desire for simple, fine and extraordinary lifestyle rituals to replace the modern habits of over-consumer. The founder, Svetlana Sanchez, was born and raised in the Far East of Russia. Traditional medicine wasn't considered an 'alternative'. Turning to herbs to care for health and skin. After studying biochemistry and pre-med, she created her own "mini-lab".
The Gressa collection is filled with worldly ritual-inspired apothecary items as well as glamour-ful color skincare cosmetics. As the world takes notice, they invite you to take the leap into the world of divine textures, luxurious olfactory endeavors and truly, the best skin of your life.
Gressa is a fusion of science, love and art all bottled up in a beautiful violet glass bottle. And it really is just that: years of formal education, tradition of ancient medicine, and a heart and soul poured into it creating the beauty behind each formula.
The Gressa concept is to transcend green beauty. They wanted to take the stigma and stereotypes out of the word ‘green’ and create a product to represent what every woman deserves: an efficacious line that is couture yet remains uncompromising of purity. The Gressa brand is a brand that celebrates glamour and sex appeal and still remains free of silicones, preservatives, and anything that is harmful for your health.
Health | The products are free of silicones, preservatives, and anything that could potentially harm your health or skin. In the words of the founder: "I believe health comes from the organic whole foods that we eat. I feel the same about our skin. Our chic eco-skincare does just that, provides nutritious and luxurious skinfood. I invite you to turn the simplest, most essential daily need of skincare into a ritual. Feel good about what goes in your skin." Learn more about their key ingredients here. |
Sustainability |
Gressa Skin believes it's important to take the planet into consideration and encourages people not to over-consume. Their uncomplicated, minimal line encourages to buy good products that are often suited for all skin types. The make-up line is made up out of only the essentials and each product can be used for multiple things (which you can read in our "Minimalist Tips" on individual product pages). All products are hand-made in the U.S. and have violet glass packaging. The make-up products are also incredibly pigmented, especially the liquid items like cheek products and foundation, which will make the products last a very long time. Besides beauty products, Svetlana also encourages people to buy foods that are in season. |
Ethics | Gressa Skin speaks out about the mistreatment of animals by companies like L'Oréal on social media. The products themselves are handmade in the U.S. in small batches using mostly wild-crafted, raw and organic ingredients. All products are cruelty-free and the ones we offer at Florissana are vegan. |
I have always struggled with finding the right products as my skin is dry/combination, sensitive and easily irritated. This was especially a problem pre-green beauty. Stress affects my skin a lot, and has in the past resulted in having my entire face covered with tiny red pimples. Even though I never had a problem with acne before. I've managed to keep my stress levels somewhat in check lately, but was still having break-outs regularly. Using Gressa Skin products has drastically improved that. Especially the foundation and purifying oil seem to have wonderful benefits for my skin.
It's a common misconception that using oils makes your skin oilier. The truth is that oils will help your skin balance out, whether you have dry or oily skin. All of Gressa's products are oil-based, they never leave you feeling greasy or heavy. Your skin will feel balanced and hydrated.
One of my personal favourite make-up items that I use almost every day is the highlighter. You can see it in the picture above. I also use it on my eyes on minimal make-up days to add a little something, without actually having to put on eyeshadow.

We carefully curate the products that we introduce on Florissana. One of the brands we chose is Dr. Bronner's and we'd like to tell you a little more about it.

]]>We carefully curate the products that we introduce on Florissana. One of the brands we chose is Dr. Bronner's and we'd like to tell you a little more about it.
The first product the brand created was their socially and environmentally responsible castile soap. Since then they have expanded the range to other personal care products like body lotions, sugar soaps and toothpaste.
Dr. Bronner’s was founded in 1948 by Emanuel Bronner, a third-generation master soapmaker from a German-Jewish soapmaking family. He used the labels on his superb ecological soaps to spread his message that we must realize our unity across religious & ethnic divides or perish: “We are All-One or None!” Still family-owned and run, Dr. Bronner’s honors its founder’s vision by continuing to make socially & environmentally responsible products of the highest quality, and by dedicating their profits to help make a better world.
All-One! Dr. Bronner's products have several certifications including USDA Organic, Fair for Life, Leaping Bunny cruelty-free and Vegan.
The brand relies on six principles that they live by:
If you want to know more about these commitments, you can visit Dr. Bronner's website where you van find a detailed description of all of these claims including links to even more info about their practices!
Health | Only the purest organic and fair trade ingredients—most products vegan and certified to the same organic standards as food! No synthetic preservatives, no foaming agents. |
Sustainability |
Treat the Earth like home. Regenerative organic farming projects—soil enrichment and tree-planting programs—100% post-consumer recycled packaging—aggressive waste and water-use reduction—yes! The products are encouraged to be used in multiple ways, especially the castile soap. This product is also concentrated and thus it will last longer and need less packaging. |
Ethics |
Dr. Bronner’s has always been an activist company, dating back to when Emanuel Bronner was calling on the human race to unite from street corners and auditoriums, selling his peppermint castile soap on the side. Carrying forward that same activist spirit, it is their mission to continue to use the company today to fight for and financially support causes they believe in: regenerative agriculture, fair trade, animal advocacy, industrial hemp and drug policy reform, and living wages among others. They call themselves the “fighting soap company,” and are committed and strategic in the causes they fight for. All products are cruelty-free and the ones we offer at Florissana are vegan. |
We believe it's important the brands we represent produce healthy products in a sustainable and ethical manner and Dr. Bronner's most certainly qualifies!
Did you know the castile soap has many uses besides just using it to wash your body? In fact it has 18 different uses. These include body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, vegetable wash, washing liquid, washing detergent and more. It's the perfect staple product in your bathroom at home, but especially during travels! As it's concentrated it also won't take up too much space in your bags. Read more about the uses on Lisa Bronner's blog.
This week you can use the discount code BRONNERINTRO to receive 15% off of all Dr. Bronner's products in your order.
See you next week when we tell you all about the idea behind Gressa Skin. Have a lovely day!
